HISTORY

Fitness America began in July of 1992 with the purchase of an existing health club facility.  During the 90’s Fitness America conducted a somewhat successful business with typical hours of operation and the same equipment from the previous enterprise.  In 2000, due to increased competition and falling revenues, Fitness America began to implement a new business strategy and in January of 2001, the new business model was introduced to the community.

Fitness America became a 24/7 operation and invested in new equipment and remodeled the facility.  In January 2001 the current membership base was just over 200 members. After a large advertising program consisting of print, media, and direct marketing the membership numbers grew to over 800 by the end of April 2001.  Since 2001 Fitness America has enjoyed steady growth and maintained a large membership base.  The ongoing strategy has been too continually invest in our operation and offer the Peoria community the best health club value in the market we serve.

Fitness America was established in 1992 with 3 original partners.  Over the next decade the company ownership changed to a single owner.  The new Bartonville location is a partnership between myself and Craig Canfield.  Both locations we serve we own the business and property.

Fitness America is a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week health club.  Fitness America has been in business for 21 years. Fitness America offers a wide range of equipment to benefit members of all ages, including free weights, weight machines, cardio equipment and programs designed to encourage interaction of members in both classes and one on one instruction. A trusting relationship with the members and the community served is the most important priority.  The facility maintains the highest standards with regards to safety, security, cleanliness, and quality service and equipment to help ensure an effective and motivating atmosphere throughout the facility.  The company was incorporated in the State of Illinois, and operates our facility in East Peoria,

Fitness America provides the following health club services:

Free weights and weight machines. A large selection of free weights and weight machines to help even the serious lifter attain an excellent workout and achieve even the highest fitness goals. Multiple benches, large dumbbell area, many free weight machines to ensure equipment availability even during the busiest hours of the day.

Full line of cardiovascular equipment. Fitness America will maintain a full line of cardio equipment including treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, steppers, and row machines. We expect to have close to  thirty  (30) pieces of cardio equipment to allow members at all times throughout the day to have access to their favorite cardio machine. Flat panel TV’s will be installed and/or upgraded throughout the cardio area, for the members, to help them more fully enjoy their workout experience.

Circuit Training System. Fitness America club will provide a 17 - 20 piece circuit training system that will be isolated from the rest of the club creating a comfortable environment for new and existing members who might be self conscious about their workouts.  Circuit training is a combination of high-intensity aerobics and resistance training designed to be easy to follow and target fat loss, muscle building and heart-lung fitness. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program.

Drink/Smoothie bar. This new Bartonville location will have a sports drink/smoothie bar for members convenience.  We will market and sell a variety of supplements, snacks, and accessories.  This retail area, along with self serve drink and snack vending machines, will add a profitable revenue stream to the clubs operations.

Fitness impact: three stars – Health clubs are hard to judge because you will only get out of what you put into it, that being said Fitness America has all the equipment you could ever need or want to get your best workouts.

Learning Curve: Three stars – Most of the equipment and classes are easy to pick up, staff is able to help you as needed also, hardest part as with any gym is going in and doing it.

Social Aspect: Four stars – Really great place to work out, people are very nice, not a Meat head place, or barbie doll place either, normal people getting great workouts with smiles on their faces who are always helpful.

Availability/Cost: Five stars – By far the best gym value in central IL there is no gym that can even come close to beating their prices esp for 24 hour service.
